St. John School Launches Mobile App Using 468 Field Trip from 468 Communications

School’s St. John Explorer App to be used for education, fundraising and community engagement

January 20, 2017 – Today, St. John, a K-8 Catholic School in Seattle, Washington, launched the St. John Explorer app using new mobile technology from 468 Communications. 468 Field Trip helps educators more deeply engage and reward students for learning about the world around them. Beyond the classroom, the St. John Explorer app will be used for organizing field trips and fundraising within the St. John Parish Community.

“At St. John, we’re constantly seeking out innovative ways to inspire students to learn while promoting active involvement in the mission of the school,” said Paul Kelley, Assistant Principal at St. John School. “We chose 468 Field Trip because it allows us to easily and affordably use technology in a way that gets kids out into the real world while creating clear ways the community can support that effort.”

Initially, The St. John Explorer app will be used as a companion app for the annual social studies trips that the school’s 7th and 8th graders take to historic places across Washington State and in Washington, D.C. During class, students will research and write descriptions of the places they plan to visit on those class trips. Each of those locations will be added to the app and assigned a point value, which users of the app can collect when they physically visit those places.

Points accumulated with St. John Explorer can be redeemed for goods or services at Rewards locations listed in the app. That’s where St. John community businesses come into play. Businesses have the opportunity to sponsor the app in return for being listed as Rewards locations, creating incentives for app users to make purchases at those businesses.

St. John Explorer is available as a free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Students will begin populating the app with historic places around Washington State and Washington, D.C. later this year. For more information about 468 Field Trip, visit
